Vedanta Shares in Focus After Chhattisgarh Plant Incident — Here’s How Stock Performed

Shares of Vedanta Limited was expected to come under pressure in Wednesday’s trade after a major accident at the power plant in Chhattisgarh that reportedly claimed 10 lives and left 24 other workers injured after a boiler explosion triggered panic across the facility.
The company reported that 10 workers were killed and 24 others injured in an incident at the Unit-1 boiler of its Athena Power plant in Singhitarai, Chhattisgarh.
Analysts predicted that shares of Vedanta Limited are likely to come under pressure in Wednesday’s trade but on contrary to this, shares of Vedanta Ltd traded higher.
At 11:50 AM, share price of Vedanta Limited was trading at Rs 759.85, up by Rs 7.20 or 0.90%.
The stock opened at Rs 752.00, touched an intraday high of Rs 768.00, and a low of Rs 741.10.
Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal, reacting to the incident, in a post on social media platform X said, “Deeply saddened by the tragic accident at the Singhitarai plant in Chhattisgarh. Everyone affected is my family. Your tears are mine. Your pain is mine,” he said.
“Our full support, in every way, is with you. A full investigation is underway. All due processes will be followed. No stone will be left unturned,” Agarwal added.
Vedanta has said it is extending full support to the injured, coordinating with medical teams and authorities, and has initiated a detailed investigation into the incident.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai termed the incident “extremely tragic” and said the government stands with the families of the deceased.
“The information regarding the horrific accident caused by a boiler explosion at the ‘Vedanta Power Plant’ located in Singhtirai in Sakti district is extremely distressing and heart-wrenching. The news of the demise and injury of some workers in this accident is profoundly agonizing. My deepest condolences are with the bereaved families. I pray to God to grant place at His divine feet to the departed souls and provide the families with the strength to bear this unbearable sorrow,” CM Vishnu Deo Sai said in a post on X.
During the third quarter of the financial year, Vedanta reported a 61% year-on-year jump in consolidated profit to Rs 5,710 crore for the third quarter, with revenue rising 19% to Rs 45,899 crore.
