A consumer complaint regarding spoiled eggs purchased from quick-commerce platform Blinkit has prompted action by health authorities. The complainant alleged that eggs delivered from the platform were broken and contained worms. Acting on the complaint, officials conducted a raid at the Blinkit outlet operating out of the Falnir Square building in Falnir, Mangaluru.
As per sources during the inspection, packets containing broken and infested eggs were identified. The authorities have ordered the immediate removal and disposal of the affected stock. Further investigation is underway. Analysts believe this incident highlights the need for stricter food-safety checks, better storage practices and stronger quality control in quick-commerce operations.

It is also important to note this development comes at a time when egg prices in India have surged significantly over the past 1 year as per data from the National Egg Co-ordination Committee (NECC)-linked data which reflects 35-40 percent spike in rates over the past 12 months. Reports suggest farm rates are around Rs 7 per egg, while retail rates are around Rs 9. As per LocalCircles’ survey consumers are feeling the pinch in their household budgets. The survey has been conducted in over 67,000 consumers across 287 districts, the survey found that 62 percent of the respondents reported egg prices have been rising by at least 10–50 percent over the past six months. Nearly half also said they had reduced the quantity or frequency of their egg purchases.
In an exclusive interaction with Times Now Digital recently, Maharashtra’s Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Chhagan Bhujbal also mentioned how crucial consumer awareness is and stressed on the need for adopting stringent food safety laws by studying global practices.
