Disney Layoffs: Hollywood Giant Offers Voluntary Early Retirement To Veteran Executives

The Hollywood giant, Walt Disney has expanded its cost-cutting efforts by offering voluntary early retirement packages to senior leaders. These employee spread across its corporate, entertainment and sports divisions.
Called as the Voluntary Early Retirement Offer (VERO), the programme was outlined in an internal communication circulated by Disney’s senior executive vice president and chief people officer, Sonia Coleman, Fox Business reported.
As per the initiative, the eligible executives are allowed to leave the company voluntarily while receiving enhanced benefits in recognition of their years of service.
Under the plan, those executives who accept the offer will receive a range of benefits as part of the package. These include separation compensation in the form of severance pay, continued vesting of previously awarded corporate shares, and medical coverage at the same premium rates available to active employees.
The report said the offer is available to US-based employees holding positions from director through executive vice president across Disney Entertainment, ESPN and corporate divisions.
Employees need to accumulated at least 65 points based on their age and years of service. They must also be at least 50 years old and have completed a minimum of 10 years with the company. Eligible executives will receive a specific period to decide whether to participate, followed by a confirmation window.

1,000 employees laid off earlier:
Earlier, Disney said it is set to lay off 1,000 employees in the coming weeks, coming as one of the first significant moves under the new chief executive officer, Josh D’Amaro. Since Bob Iger, predecessor of D’Amaro, returned as CEO in 2022, Disney has laid off over 8,000 people. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, the plans for the coming layoffs began before D’Amaro took over.
Disney had said the latest layoffs are tied to its long-term strategy of reassessing resources and redirecting investments as the entertainment landscape undergoes rapid change.
