Stock Market Holiday Tomorrow: Indian stock market investors are heading into a three-day trading break, with the BSE and NSE scheduled to remain closed on Friday, October 2, 2026, on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Since October 3 and 4 fall on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, trading activity across the domestic equity markets will resume only after the weekend.
The holiday will bring a pause to trading in several market segments, including equities and derivatives. Investors tracking the October market calendar will also need to account for another full trading holiday later this month on the occasion of Dussehra.
October 2 is observed as Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The day is included in the annual trading holiday calendar followed by India’s stock exchanges.
According to the exchange holiday schedule, trading will remain suspended across the equity and equity derivatives segments on October 2. Currency derivatives, NDS-RST and tri-party repo segments will also remain closed.
The commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segments are also covered under the exchange holiday schedule for the occasion.
With the following two days being the regular weekend break, investors will effectively have no stock market trading for three successive calendar days — October 2, 3 and 4.
October Has Another Stock Market Holiday
The Gandhi Jayanti break is not the only market holiday scheduled for October. Tuesday, October 20, 2026, has been designated as a trading holiday for Dussehra.
On that day, trading will be suspended in the capital market, derivatives market, electronic gold receipts and debt markets.
Apart from these festival-related closures, the exchanges will also remain shut on Saturdays and Sundays. The October weekend closures fall on October 3-4, October 10-11, October 17-18 and October 24-25. October 31 is also a Saturday, followed by November 1, a Sunday.
NSE, BSE Holiday Calendar For November And December
The trading holiday schedule extends beyond October, with additional festival and public holidays lined up toward the end of 2026. According to the calendar, the Indian stock exchanges will remain closed on November 10 for Diwali. Another market holiday is scheduled for November 24 on the occasion of Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev.
The final trading holiday listed for the year is December 25, when the exchanges will close for Christmas.
