HDFC Bank CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan To Step Down On October 26, Won’t Seek Reappointment

HDFC Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sashidhar Jagdishan will leave the bank later this year after deciding against seeking another term at the helm. The lender informed the stock exchanges on Saturday that Jagdishan will retire from the bank’s services on October 26, 2026.
Jagdishan’s decision comes as the country’s largest private sector lender prepares for a change in leadership. The bank said its board will accelerate the process of identifying and appointing his successor.
The development puts the spotlight on HDFC Bank’s leadership transition and the potential implications for investor sentiment, particularly as the market assesses the direction the lender could take under a new chief executive.
Jagdishan Confirms Decision Not To Seek Another Term

According to HDFC Bank’s regulatory filing, Jagdishan communicated his decision to the bank on Saturday.
The filing read, “Sashidhar Jagdishan has conveyed today, his decision to not seek his re-appointment as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD&CEO) of the Bank.”
The lender also indicated that it had attempted to persuade Jagdishan to reconsider his decision. However, the bank said he remained firm on his decision to leave after the completion of his current tenure.
It added, “Despite persuasion, Mr. Jagdishan reiterated his decision to not seek reappointment. Accordingly, he shall retire from the services of the Bank upon the close of business hours on October 26, 2026.”
With the departure date now specified, attention will shift towards the bank’s succession process and the profile of the executive who could take over the top leadership role.
HDFC Bank Board To Expedite Succession

HDFC Bank said its board has decided to speed up the search and appointment process for Jagdishan’s replacement.
The succession decision will be closely watched by shareholders and analysts as the appointment of a new MD and CEO could influence the bank’s strategic priorities and investor perception. A leadership transition at a major financial institution can also bring renewed focus on continuity, business growth and execution.
The bank has not disclosed the identity of a successor in the filing cited here, leaving the market to await further developments on the appointment process.
