Why Did Gold Prices Fall In The Previous Session?

Gold prices in Delhi declined by Rs 1,800 on Wednesday. The All India Sarafa Association said 99.9 per cent purity gold fell to Rs 1,50,800 per 10 grams, including taxes, from Rs 1,52,600 per 10 grams in the previous session. In the international spot market, gold dropped by $20.51, or 0.49 per cent, to $4,140.69 per ounce. The decline came amid pressure from a stronger rupee and weaker global cues.
Gold futures also recorded losses on Wednesday. The December delivery contract on MCX slipped Rs 478, or 0.32 per cent, to Rs 1,47,972 per 10 grams amid subdued spot demand and a reduction in speculative positions. In overseas trading, gold futures in New York declined 0.29 per cent to $4,148.84 per ounce. Market participants attributed the domestic futures decline partly to weak demand in the physical market.
Stronger Rupee Weighs On Domestic Gold Prices

A stronger Indian rupee can reduce the cost of importing gold because the metal is priced internationally in US dollars. This can put downward pressure on domestic prices, although global bullion movements and other market factors also influence local rates.
According to PTI, Saumil Gandhi, senior analyst for commodities at HDFC Securities, said gold prices continued to decline in the domestic market on Wednesday amid weak global cues and a strengthening rupee.
The rupee gained 19 paise to close at 95.17 against the US dollar on Wednesday, marking its fourth consecutive session of gains. Support came from Reserve Bank of India intervention aimed at easing near-term dollar demand and curbing speculative risks in the foreign exchange market.
