Tata Row: Rahul Gandhi Alleges Cronyism, Questions Meeting At Amit Shah’s Residence

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reacted to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s response on his social media post over Tata Sons matter alleging cronyism while questioning a meeting involving Tata Trusts and Tata Sons at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence, amid the ongoing dispute surrounding the Tata group.
In a post addressed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Gandhi questioned what he described as the “legal and commercial matter” that necessitated the meeting at Shah’s residence. He also took a swipe at the Centre, asking who he referred to as “crony number 1” would enter the picture and which parts of the Tata group that person would get.
Gandhi further alleged that businesses across India, except a few he described as the Centre’s cronies, were unhappy with the government. His remarks come amid heightened scrutiny of developments surrounding Tata Trusts and Tata Sons.
Union Finance Minister Nirmal Sithraman had criticised Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for allegedly politicising issues involving Indian businesses, accusing him of portraying commercial and legal matters as criminal cases.
In a strongly worded statement on social media platform X, Sitharaman said political leaders should engage constructively on matters concerning Indian industry rather than make allegations driven by political considerations.
“Being the LoP @Rahul Gandhi, I suggest you refrain from politicising every issue. Also, casually labelling commercial and legal matters as criminal is unacceptable,” she said.
“You have repeatedly decried the successes of Indian industry & our entrepreneurs. Now, are you trying to incite our business leaders to join you in spreading distrust & toxicity?”
Earlier in a post, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of treating Indian businesses as its “plaything” and alleged that business leaders were afraid to raise their voices, amid a row over N Chandrasekaran’s reappointment as Tata Sons Executive Chairman. In a post on X, Gandhi vowed to ensure justice, saying, “You lack courage. We don’t.”
