Applying for the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana requires more than simply completing the online registration form. Women seeking the scheme’s monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 must also secure a recommendation letter from their local MLA or MP before their application can be submitted. Applicants must not only satisfy the prescribed eligibility conditions but also obtain approval from an elected representative to complete their registration.
According to reports, the recommendation letter has been made a compulsory part of the application process.
Delhi currently has 70 MLAs, 48 from the BJP and the remaining from the Aam Aadmi Party, along with seven Members of Parliament. A recommendation from any one of these elected representatives is required for the application to move forward.
The application form for the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana now includes a separate section that must carry the signature of an MLA or MP. The government has introduced this provision to improve transparency in the implementation of the welfare scheme while ensuring the involvement of public representatives in the verification process.
Responding to concerns over the new requirement, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood told Hindustan Times that MLAs from any political party are authorised to verify applicants’ documents. He added that similar verification mechanisms are followed under welfare programmes in several states and do not create practical difficulties for beneficiaries.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta officially launched the online registration portal for the flagship Delhi Lakshmi Yojana on Saturday. The scheme promises Rs 2,500 every month to eligible women between the ages of 21 and 60 years.
Announcing the launch, the Chief Minister wrote on X, “Today is a celebration of the honour, self-respect, and confidence of millions of sisters in Delhi. When we made this promise to you, it was not just an announcement, but a resolve for your happiness, your honour, and your better future. Today, we have the good fortune to fulfil that resolve”
She further added, “This amount will further strengthen your self-respect, give new strength to your confidence, and stand by you like a reliable support in fulfilling many small and big needs of life”
Eligibility Criteria And Documents Required
Under the scheme, only one woman per household can receive the monthly benefit. If multiple women in the same family meet the eligibility conditions, the eldest eligible woman will be considered for assistance.
Applicants must have an annual family income below ₹2.5 lakh and should not be receiving any pension. Government employees, income taxpayers, women who own four-wheelers and pensioners are excluded from the scheme. In addition, applicants whose family members have criminal records will not qualify.
To complete the application, women must submit a self-declaration confirming that they have been residents of Delhi for at least 10 years and that they have no criminal record. Supporting documents, including Aadhaar cards, voter identity cards and details of family members, must also be furnished to establish eligibility.
Earlier, the Delhi government had said, “The Delhi Government estimates that this ambitious initiative will directly benefit lakhs of women across the capital. It is expected to increase women’s economic participation, strengthen the financial stability of families and give fresh momentum to women’s empowerment in society,” the release had said earlier.
