GST Collections Jump 13.9% YoY To Rs 1.94 Lakh Crore In June

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections maintained a strong growth trajectory in June 2026, with gross revenue rising 13.9 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,94,812 crore. Provisional figures released by the Finance Ministry showed that the increase was largely supported by a sharp rise in tax collections from imports, which significantly outperformed domestic revenue growth during the month.
Net GST collections after refunds also registered healthy growth. The government collected a net GST revenue of Rs 1,62,377 crore in June 2026, reflecting an 11.2 per cent increase compared with Rs 1,45,984 crore recorded in the same month a year ago.
The latest GST data points to a widening gap between domestic tax collections and revenue generated from imports.
Gross domestic GST revenue stood at Rs 1,34,774 crore in June 2026, registering a growth of 6.5 per cent over Rs 1,26,506 crore collected during June 2025. In contrast, GST collections from imports witnessed a much sharper rise. Gross revenue from imports climbed 34.6 per cent to Rs 60,038 crore, compared with Rs 44,600 crore in the corresponding month last year.
The figures suggest that import-related tax receipts played a pivotal role in lifting the country’s overall GST collections during the month.
Refund disbursements also increased considerably in June. The government issued refunds worth Rs 32,436 crore, representing a 29.1 per cent rise from Rs 25,121 crore paid out in June 2025.
Looking at the cumulative performance for the financial year through June 2026, gross GST collections reached Rs 6,31,699 crore, reflecting an 8.4 per cent increase over Rs 5,82,542 crore recorded during the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
During the same period, domestic GST collections grew by 2.8 per cent to Rs 4,54,427 crore. Meanwhile, GST revenue from imports surged 26.2 per cent to Rs 1,77,273 crore, once again highlighting imports as the stronger contributor to overall tax growth.
Total refunds for the financial year so far stood at Rs 91,482 crore, resulting in net GST collections of Rs 5,40,218 crore.

Maharashtra Leads State-Wise Collections

State-wise domestic GST collections presented a mixed picture, with some major states posting robust gains while others witnessed declines.
Maharashtra continued to remain the country’s top GST contributor among states. Its domestic GST collections rose 9 per cent to Rs 30,714 crore in June 2026 from Rs 28,248 crore a year earlier.
Karnataka and Gujarat also reported double-digit growth, collecting Rs 12,937 crore and Rs 11,743 crore respectively. Uttar Pradesh recorded one of the strongest performances, with GST collections increasing 19 per cent to Rs 9,165 crore.
However, not every state experienced growth. Sikkim recorded the steepest fall, with collections dropping 53 per cent to Rs 170 crore from Rs 364 crore in June 2025. Puducherry saw collections decline 28 per cent to Rs 172 crore, while Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand registered declines of 26 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively. Tamil Nadu also reported a marginal decline of 2 per cent, with collections easing to Rs 9,776 crore from Rs 9,963 crore in the corresponding month last year.
