Deepinder Goyal’s Health-Tech Startup Temple Raises $54M, Valued At $190M

In a strong signal of confidence in India’s health-tech and wearables ecosystem, Deepinder Goyal’s newest venture, Temple, has raised $54 million in its first funding round, the company announced on Friday. The round was led by a group of friends and family, primarily comprising founder peers and early-stage Zomato backers, and values the start-up at an impressive $190 million (approx. Rs 1,700 crore) post-money.
Temple, the health-tech firm co-founded by Goyal — best known as the creator of food delivery giant Zomato — is building a next-generation wearable device that aims at tracking health metrics not measured by existing products. Industry reports say the company is focused especially on athletic performance and brain-centric metrics like cerebral blood flow, although detailed product specifications remain under development.
In his announcement on X, Goyal said every investor in the round was either a founder friend or an early backer of his earlier ventures, and welcomed the support even “whether or not Temple ever makes it to market.” More than 30 Temple employees participated in this funding round at par valuation with no discount, a move Goyal described as a rare and powerful signal of internal belief.
Goyal is no longer CEO of Eternal (Zomato & Blinkit parent co) and will now spend time on high-risk experimental tech-based startups like Temple.
The funding round is particularly notable given that it comes at a time when global wearable behemoths are also leaning heavily into bio-monitoring features, and highlights the growing appreciation among indian investors in favour of health-tech wearables and specialised hardware-based products. Temple is currently recruiting for many positions ranging from Analogue Systems Engineers to Computational Neuroscientists.
As Temple now ramps up development, industry watchers will be keen to see how it positions itself against established players and how soon its technology moves from lab to consumer reality.
