The company’s profit climbed to Rs 7,029.56 crore in the July-September quarter, against Rs 5,066.78 crore reported in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
The power giant also recorded healthy growth in revenue, with consolidated revenue from operations rising 21.2 per cent to Rs 54,269.95 crore in Q2 FY27. The company had registered revenue of Rs 44,784.05 crore in the year-ago quarter.
NTPC announced its financial performance through unaudited results submitted to the stock exchanges on Saturday. Alongside the earnings announcement, the company’s board approved its first interim dividend for FY27, offering shareholders a payout of Rs 3 per equity share.
NTPC’s consolidated financial statements showed that profit attributable to owners of the parent company stood at Rs 7,029.56 crore during the September quarter. Meanwhile, the overall consolidated profit, which also accounts for non-controlling interests, came in at Rs 7,350.79 crore.
This marked a considerable improvement over the corresponding quarter of FY26, when the company reported total consolidated profit of Rs 5,225.30 crore, while profit attributable to shareholders was Rs 5,066.78 crore.
The company’s total income also witnessed an increase, reaching Rs 54,715.69 crore during Q2 FY27 compared with Rs 45,262.10 crore in the same quarter last year.
However, expenses moved higher alongside the growth in income. NTPC’s total expenditure rose to Rs 48,059.30 crore from Rs 40,218.03 crore in the year-ago period.
Fuel Expenses Increase During September Quarter
Fuel costs remained a significant component of NTPC’s expenditure during the quarter. The company’s fuel expenses climbed to Rs 28,628.19 crore in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs 23,062.34 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
Despite the increase in fuel-related expenses and overall costs, NTPC managed to deliver higher consolidated profitability during the reporting period.
The quarterly performance also reflected increased contributions from the company’s solar power generation business and electricity trading operations, indicating growth across multiple revenue streams.
Solar Power And Electricity Trading Boost Revenue
NTPC’s financial results highlighted an improvement in revenue generated through its renewable energy operations. Revenue from solar power stations increased to Rs 1,138.23 crore in the July-September quarter, up from Rs 722.52 crore in the corresponding period last year.
Electricity trading also contributed to the company’s overall operational revenue. NTPC disclosed that revenue from operations included Rs 3,172.14 crore “on account of sale of energy through trading (gross)”.
This was higher than the Rs 2,655.43 crore recorded under the same category in the year-ago quarter.
The growth in these segments comes alongside NTPC’s conventional power generation business, highlighting the contribution of its broader energy portfolio to its quarterly financial performance.
Apart from its consolidated performance, NTPC also reported an improvement in its standalone financial results.
The company’s standalone net profit increased 14.3 per cent year-on-year to Rs 5,319.94 crore in Q2 FY27. In the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year, standalone profit stood at Rs 4,653.33 crore.
